382 such sale payable the balance of principal and interest due her and pay the residue of such proceeds of any to Mary Frances Kennard the wife of the said James Kennard Therefore Know all men that for and in consideration of the premises aforesaid for the purpose of carrying the said agreement into effect and for the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to her the said Eliza J Shaw in hand paid at the sealing & delivery hereof by the said Mary Frances Kennard she the said Eliza J Shaw hath given granted bargained sold & delivered & by these presents doth give grant bargain sell & deliver unto the said Richard W. Gill the said James Kennard a slave for life. To Have and to Hold to him his executors administrators & assigns and them to and for the uses & purposes aforesaid forever. And the said Gill doth bind himself his executors & administrators that either he or they upon the payment of the said balance of four hundred and fifty dollars with interest as aforesaid to the said Eliza J Shaw or her assigns he will manumit & liberate the said James Kennard as for as in him lies according to the laws of this state In Witness whereof the said Eliza J Shaw and Richard W. Gill have set their hands and seals this twenty first day of November eighteen hundred and forty nine Signed sealed & delivered in the presence Eliza J Shaw (seal) of Geo E Gambrill J W Hunter R. W. Gill (seal) Annapolis November 1849 Received of Mary Frances Kennard the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars cash payment within mentioned Eliza J. Shaw State of Maryland City of Annapolis Anne Arundel County to wit Be it known that on this twenty first day of November eighteen hundred and forty nine before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State and for the County aforesaid personally appeared Eliza J Shaw and R. W. Gill who severally acknowledged the aforegoing Indenture to be their act and deed. And I do hereby certify that of my own knowledge the said parties are the persons professing to act in and described by the said Indenture and the said Richard W. Gill has this day paid one dollar being the duty chargeable by law on this instrument of writing the receipt whereof is herein endorsed agreeably to the act of Assembly of December session 1846 Chapter 61 Given under my hand this 22d day of November 1849 Jos H Nicholson Clk Recorded on the 22d day of November 1849 Deld R W Gill 3rd May 1850 Cost $1.20
