380 John Ridout two negroes now in the possession of the said Holliday as slaves for life to wit negro man Robert Taylor aged about twenty four years and negro boy Henry aged about fourteen years To Have and to Hold the said two negroes to the said John Ridout his executors administrators and assigns forever Provided always and these presents are upon this condition that if the said Holliday do and shall well and truly pay the said note and all renewals thereof and substitute therefor or for any part thereof then and in that case these presents and every matter and thing therein shall be utterly null and void And the said Holliday for himself his executors and administrators the said two negroes by these presents unto the said John Ridout his executors administrators and assigns against all and every person will forever warrant and by these presents defend And provided also that until default be made in the payment of the said sum of money as aforesaid the said William S Holliday shall hold the aforesaid negroes in his possession In Testimony whereof the said William S. Holliday hath hereto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first herein before written Signed sealed and delivered in W.m S. Holliday (seal) presence of Owen M. Taylor On this fourteenth day of November in the year eighteen hundred and forty nine before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland in and Anne Arundel County personally appears the within named grantor William S. Holliday and acknowledges the aforegoing deed to be his act and deed. Owen M. Taylor On this fourteenth day of November eighteen hundred and forty nine before me the subscriber the said Justice and at the same time of the above acknowledgment personally appears Dr John Ridout the mortgagee in the above Deed of Mortgage and makes oath that the consideration set forth in the said deed of mortgage is true and bona fide as therein set forth sworn before Owen M. Taylor Anne Arundel County to wit I certify that John Ridout this day paid fifty cents being the duty chargeable by law on this instrument of writing the receipt whereof is herein endorsed agreeably to the act of assembly of December session 1846 chapter 61 Given under my hand this 16th day of November 1849 Jos H Nicholson Clk Recorded on the 16th day of November 1849 ex & del.d Cost 87½
