granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give grant
bargain and sell unto the said R. H. Rawlings one negro Woman
named Susan and her five children named as follows Mary Thomas
Richard Martha & Reasin to have and to hold the said negro Woman
Susan And her five children Mary Thomas Richard Martha &
Reasin and their heirs forever which said negro Susan and her said
children is now in the possession of the said R.d H. Rawlings and
which said negro woman Susan and her said children Mary
Thomas Richard Martha & Reasin I do hereby warrant and
defend to the said Richard H. Rawlings and his heirs forever against
me and my heirs and against all manner of persons that now
claiming or to claim by through or under me.  In Witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the 22.nd day
of May 1845                                                   her

    At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

    On this 22.nd day of May 1845 personally appear Gracey Thompson
formerly Gracey Gray party bargained in the above bill of sale and
acknowledged the above bill of sale or instrument of writing
to be her act and deed and the property therein mentioned and
thereby bargained and sold to be the right and estate of the
within named R.d H. Rawlings party bargained also therein
mentioned according to the purport true intent and meaning
thereof and the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided

Know all men by these
presents that I Cordelia
C Miller for and in
consideration of the sum
of three hundred dollars current money to me in hand paid
by Eliza Miller at or before the sealing and delivery hereof the
receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and in pursuance of an
act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at December
session eighteen hundred hundred and forty two Chapter two
hundred and ninety three entitled an act to regulate conjugal
rights as they regard property "Any maimed woman may become
seized of any property real or of slaves by direct bequest devise
gift purchase or distribution in her own name and as of her own
property have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do
