day of May in the year eighteen hundred and forty nine before the subscribers two
Justices of the peace in and for Anne Arundel County personally appeared Brice
B. Brewer and Catharine Brewer his wife and Andrew Slicer parties grantors and
grantee in the annexed instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be
their act and deed.   And the said Catharine Brewer wife of the said Brice B. Brewer did
sign and seal the said deed or instrument of writing before us out of the presence and
hearing of her husband and being by us privately examined apart from and out of the
presence and hearing of her husband whether she doth execute and acknowledge the
same voluntarily and freely and without being induced to so so by fear or threats of
or ill usage by her husband or by fear of his displeasure declares and acknowledges that
she doth execute and acknowledge the same voluntarily and freely and without being
induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband or by fear of his displeasure

Know all men by these presents that I William K. Travers adm.r
of Capewell Keene of Dorchester County and state of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and
forty dollars current money to me in hand paid by Thomas
J. Mezick of Anne Arundel County and state of Maryland have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas
J. Mezick his heirs and assigns the following negro woman Maria aged about
forty years slave for life and sound in body and mind   To Have and to Hold
the said negro woman Maria as above bargained and sold unto the said Thomas J.
Mezick his heirs executors administrators and assigns against me the said William
K. Travers adm.r of Capewell Keene my heirs executors and administrators and against
all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever
defend      In Testimony whereof I William K. Travers admr of Capewell Keene
have hereto set my hand and affixed seal this 25.th day of May eighteen hundred
and forty nine

Maryland Dorchester County to wit      On the 22.d day of May in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and forty nine personally appeared before me a Justice
