Brice B. Brewer & wife
              to
Andrew Slicer
This Indenture made this twenty eighth day of May in the
year eighteen hundred and forty nine between Brice B Brewer
and Catharine Brewer his wife of the City of Annapolis state of
Maryland of the one part and Andrew Slicer of the same City and
state aforesaid of the other part whereas one Susan Burgess of Anne Arundel County and
State aforesaid by a Deed of Trust bearing date the twenty second day of May in the year
eighteen hundred and forty five conveyed to the said Brice B Brewer and Catharine Brewer his
wife among certain seal and other personal property therein mentioned a certain negro boy named
Joseph now about thirteen years of age a slave for lie for and during the term of their natural
lives and after their decease to such child or children between them begotten as shall be
living at the time of their death and to the heirs of such child or children as will more
fully appear by reference to said deed of trust duly recorded in Liber J H N No 1 folios 155 & 156 one of
the Land Record Books of Anne Arundel County      Now this Indenture witnesseth that the
said Brice B Brewer and Catharine Brewer his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one
hundred dollars current money to them in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery
of these presents by the said Andrew Slicer who now is and for more than one year last
passed has been a bona fide resident of the state of Maryland in the City aforesaid the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained sold assigned and transferred
and by these presents doth bargain sell assign and transfer unto the said Andrew
Slicer his executors administrators and assigns all their the said Brice B Brewer and
Catharine Brewer his wife's right and interest in and to the said negro boy Joseph for
and during the term of five years and about four months the said term to commence
on the day of the execution of these presents; and to end on and after the expiration of
five years from the first day of October next that is to say; on the first day of October
in the year eighteen hundred and fifty four      To Have and to Hold all the right and
interest of them the said Brice B Brewer and Catharine Brewer his wife in and to the
said negro boy Joseph for and during the aforesaid term of years unto the said Andrew
Slicer his executors administrators and assigns to his and their only proper use and
behoof and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever
    In Witness whereof the said Brice B. Brewer and Catharine his wife and Andrew
Slicer have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the day and year
first herein before written
