345 State of Maryland A. A. County sc Be it remembered that on this 25th day of April eighteen hundred and forty nine before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said County appears Henry A. Williams Exr as aforesaid & Addison Johnson and acknowledges the within instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such cases made and provided And at the same time and place also appeared before me the subscriber Addison Johnson the grantee in the said Bill of Sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Witness my hand Dorsey Jacob The words Abraham and authority were interlined at the time of the acknowledgment was taken to the foregoing Bill of sale Dorsey Jacob Recorded on the 30th day of April 1849 Deed Jos Osbourn 5 Novr 1850 Cost 87½ paid
one hundred and fifty dollars current money and in order more fully to secure the payment of the same is willing to execute these presents Now this Indenture witnesseth that the said Edward C Williams for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said Thos Welsh at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Thos Welsh his executors administrators and assigns all and singular the property hereinafter particularly mentioned and expressed that is to say one negro named Tom a slave for a term of years whose term of service expired on the first day of April in the year eighteen hundred and sixty five as by reference to the last will and testament of Edward Williams in the office of the Register of Wills of Anne Arundel County will more fully appear also one other negro named Stephen a slave for life To Have and to Hold all and singular the said ^property above^ bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be unto the said Thos Welsh his executors administrators and assigns to his and their own use and behoof Provided always and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said Edward C. Williams do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Welsh his executors administrators or assigns the full sum of one hundred and fifty dollars current money with legal interest for the same on or before the first day of January in the year eighteen hundred and fifty then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein contained shall cease determine and be utterly null and void to all intents and purposes anything herein |
