Be it remembered that on this twenty second day of November 1848 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said county appears George E. Cromwell as afforesaid and Thomas Pumphrey and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before W.m Hawkins J.P. And at the same time and place also appeared before me Thomas Pumphrey sr the grantee in the said Bill of sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in the said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Sworn before W.m Hawkins J. P. Received Decr 11 1848 one dollar for stamp duty on the aforegoing instrument of writing Jos. H. Nicholson Clk Recorded on the 11.th day of December 1848 Ex.d.d.d Cost $.62½ paid
do grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said Susan Young my negro girl Charlotte about fifteen years old a slave for life which said slave Charlotte I will warrant and defend to the said Susan Young her executors administrators and assigns against me my executors administrators and against every other person or persons above named. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed my seal this 23.d day of December 1848 Jack R. Grimes (seal) in presence of Dorsey Jacob State of Maryland A. A. County Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 25th day of December in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty eight before me the subscriber a Justice of the state of Maryland in and for the county aforesaid personally appeared Jack R Grimes he being known to me to be the person who ^is^ named and sworn as and professing to be a party to the foregoing Bill of Sale and doth acknowledge the said Bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed And at the same time and place also appeared before me Susan Young the grantee in the said Bill of Sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid Dorsey Jacob Recorded December 12th 1848 one dollar for stamp duty on this instrument Jos H Nicholson Clk Recorded December 12th 1848 Cost $.62½ paid |
