whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Edwin W. Duvall a negro girl by the name of Mary Balson or Batson the said negro girl to serve the said Edwin W. Duvall for the term of fifteen years from the date hereof she at this time being of the age of fifteen years. To Have and to Hold the said negro girl to the said Edwin W. Duvall his executors administrators or assigns for the term aforesaid to his and their own use and behoof and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever. In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty first day of November eighteen hundred and forty eight Signed sealed & delivered in John G. Nichols (seal) presence of J. W. Hunter State of Maryland Anne Arundel County sct. Be it remembered that on this twenty first day of November eighteen hundred and forty eight before me the subscriber a justice of the peace of the said State in and for said County personally appears John G. Nichols the aforegoing grantor and acknowledged the aforegoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned Acknowledged before & certified by J. W. Hunter State of Maryland Anne Arundel County sct. On this 21st day of November 1848 personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the said state in and for said County the above named grantee Edwin W. Duvall and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration expressed in the aforegoing Bill of Sale is just and bona fide as therein stated sworn before J. W. before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Ezekiel E. Bell his executors administrators and assigns one negro woman and child the woman Mary being twenty two years old 21st of January 1849 to serve until she is thirty one and no longer but thereafter to be free and discharged from all servitude the child Ann Mariah being four years old the first day of February 1849 |
