presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Charles Toogood his Executors
administrators and assigns, my negro Slaves Mary and her child Sidney
To Have and to Hold, the said discribed negroes Mary and Sidney during their
natural life to the said Charles Toogood his Executors, administrators and
assigns forever, and I the said Randolph S. Cromwell for my self, my heirs, executors
administrators the said negros Mary and Sidney unto the said Charles
Toogood his Executors administrators and assigns against me the said Randolph
S Cromwell my executors and administrators and against all and
every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend
by these presents
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Seventeenth
day of July Eighteen hundred and forty Eight

Be it remembered that on this 17.th day of July 1848 before the subscriber
a Justice of the Peace for said County appears Randolph S. Cromwell and acknowledges
the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to
the true intent and meaning thereof, and at the same time and place also
personally appeared Charles Toogood and made Oath on the Holy Evangely
of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the above bill of Sale is
true and bona fide as therein set forth to the best of his knowledge and
belief

Received Annapolis July the 18.th One dollar for Stamp duty under
act of assembly 1846 Chap 61.

firm of Wilson and Kelly grocery merchants
in the city of Baltimore five hundred D. O. Gowan
which has been secured to me by a mortgage from the said
Gowan and wife bearing date the 1st day of April 1846 and
recorded in Liber J. H. N No 1 folios 32 &c one of the land record
Books of Anne Arundel County Court this assignment being made
by me in order to pay five hundred dollars due by me on account
