Bill of Sale from
Philip Clayton
           To
John Lamb
Know all men by these presents that I
Philip Clayton of the City of Annapolis and Anne
Arundel County in the State of Maryland for and
in consideration of the sum of twenty Eight dollars
current money to me in hand paid by John
Lamb who now is, and for more than one year last passed, has been a bonafide
resident of the State of Maryland residing in the same city and County aforesaid
the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have bargained sold assigned
and transferred and by these presents, do bargain sell assign and transfer unto
the said John Lamb his executors administrators and assigns my right and
interest in and to the negro woman which I purchased of Eliza Grammer and
John Hillen Administrators of John Andrew Grammer deceased at the sale of
the personal estate of the said deceased by his said Administrator named Hannah
Ann which said Negro Woman was sold to me on the seventeenth day of April
Eighteen hundred and thirty three as of the age of four years and to serve me until
she arrived at the age of twenty Eight years as will appear by the return of
the said Administrators filed in the office of the Register of Wills of Baltimore
County and which return was on the ninth day of April in the year Eighteen
hundred and thirty five by the Orphans Court of said Baltimore County Ordered
to be recorded                  To Have and to hold the same negro woman named
Hannah Ann unto the said John Lamb his executors administrators
and assigns       In testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and seal and
the said John Lamb also hereto set his hand and seal on the twenty second
day of June Eighteen hundred and forty Eight

State of Maryland      Anne Arundel County to Wit

Be it remembered that on this twenty second day of June Eighteen
hundred and forty Eight before me the subscriber a justice of the peace
of the said State in and for said County personally appeared Philip Clayton
the Seller and John Lamb the purchaser of the said negro woman named
Hannah Ann mentioned in the aforegoing instrument of writing to be their
respective act and deed

                                                                                        J. W. Hunter
Recorded the 23.th day of June 1848.
