Bill of Sale from
Nancy Smith
             to
Basil S. Benson
Know all Men by These Presents, That I Nancy
Smith of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred
dollars lawful money of the United States in hand
paid by Basil S. Benson at or before the sealing and
delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Have
granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant bargain and
sell unto the said Basil S. Benson his Executors, administrators and assigns
my negro woman Henrietta Robinson and her two children John and
Lewis Robinson the woman to serve the said Basil S. Benson his Executors Administrators
and Assigns until the twenty third day of December in the year
of Our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and Sixty two, when she will be
thirty five years of age (35) and then to be again my property the two children
John and Lewis and all that may hereafter from the date of these presents be
born of her body to be the slaves for life or at the pleasure of the said
Basil S. Benson his Executors Administrators and Assigns
To Have and To Hold the said described Negro woman and her two children
and all of them born of her body, the woman until the date above written, and
the children forever to the said Basil S. Benson his Executors Administrators
and Assigns forever and she the said Nancy Smith for herself, her Heirs
Executors and administrators the said property doth convey unto the said
Basil S. Benson his Executors, Administrators and assigns, against the
said Nancy Smith her Executors and administrators, and against all
and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant
and forever defend by these presents
In Witness whereof she hereunto set her Hand and seal this nineteenth
day of may Eighteen Hundred and forty eight
Signed Sealed and Delivered
          in the presence of               Nancy Smith      (Seal)

Be it Remembered That On this Nineteenth day of may 1848 before
the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said State and County appears
Nancy Smith and Acknowledges the above Instrument of writing to be her
act and deed, according to the true intent and meaning thereof
          Acknowledged before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace
of state of maryland in and for said County on the day above written
