Bill of Sale from
Andrew J. Phelps
adm.r of James Phelps
                  to
Jonathan S. Warfield
Know all men by These Presents,
That I Andrew J. Phelps administrator
of James Phelps deceased of Anne Arundel
County and State of Maryland, for and
in consideration of the sum of Four hundred
and fourteen dollars lawful money of the
United States in hand paid by Jonathan Warfield of said County and
State at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged  Have granted bargained and sold and by
these presents Do grant, bargain and sell, unto the said Jonathan Warfield
his Executors Administrators and Assigns
One Negro boy Aaron aged about twelve years the said negro being a slave
for life and formerly the property of James Phelps of Anne Arundel County
now deceased
                         To Have and To Hold the said described Negro slave for
life to the said Jonathan Warfield his Executors Administrators and
Assigns forever and I the said Andrew J. Phelps Administrator as aforesaid
for my self my Heirs Executors and Administrators, the said Negro
slave for life unto the said Jonathan Warfield his Executors, Administrators
and Assigns, against me the said Andrew J Phelps Administrator
as aforesaid Executors and Administrators, and against all and
every other person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever
defend by these presents
    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
second day of may Eighteen Hundred and forty eight
Signed Sealed and delivered
      In the presence of                     Andrew J. Phelps Adm.r   (Seal)
      W.m Hawkins J. P.

State of Maryland   Sc.t

Be it Remembered That on this twenty second day of May 1848
before the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said County appears
Andrew J. Phelps administrator, of James Phelps and acknowledges
the above Instrument of writing to be his act and deed according
to the true intent and meaning thereof and at the same time appeared
Jonathan Warfield the done named in the foregoing bill of sale
and made oath in due form of Law that the consideration set forth in said
bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth

Recorded the 23.d day May 1848.
