                               Anne Arundel County Sc.t

Be it remembered that on this 28.th day of January Eighteen hundred and
forty Eight before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said County appears
Dorsey Jacob and Robert Hall, colered man, and acknowledge the above
instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent
and meaning thereof

A Mortgage of goods & Chattels
from John T. Stallings
                   To
John D. Childs
This Indenture made this 15.th day of January
1848 between John T. Stallings of Anne Arundel
County in the State of Maryland of the one
part and Jerningham D. Childs of the state
and county aforesaid of the other part
Whereas the said John T. Stallings is indebted to the said Jerningham
D. Childs in the full and Just sum of Fifteen Dollars and twenty four cents
current money with interest on the same from the seventh day of December
1847 until paid
    Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John T Stallings in
consideration of the said debt or sum of Fifteen dollars and twenty four
cents, with the interest as aforesaid, owing to the said Jerningham D. Childs
as aforesaid, and for the better securing the payment thereof to the said
Jerningham D. Childs his Executors administrators or assigns, the
said John T. Stallings hath granted bargained and sold released and
confirmed, and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell, release
and confirm unto the said Jerningham D. Childs his heirs and assigns
One Bay mare about six years old, and one white and red
Cow about eight years old  To have and to hold the said mare and
Cow, above bargained and sold or meant, mentioned or intended so to
be, to the said Jerningham D. Childs his Executors, administrators and
assigns forever, and I the said John T. Stallings for myself my heirs my
executors and administrators, all and singular the said mare and Cow
unto the said Jerningham D. Childs, his executors, administrators
and assigns against me the said John T. Stallings, my executors and administrators
and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever
shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents provided always
and it is the true intent and meaning of these presents, and of the said
parties hereunto, that whenever the said John T. Stallings shall pay
