Know all men by these presents, That I Thomas J. Brice of Anne
Arundel County and State of Maryland for and in consideration
of the sum of Three Hundred Dollars lawful money of the United
States, in hand paid by Charles Willigman of the City of Baltimore
and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, Have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents Do grant, bargain and sell, unto the
said Charles Willigman his executors administrators and assigns a
Negro man by the name of Alfred about the age of Twenty six years
purchased of a certain Joshua Grimes Executor of Moses Laurence
whose term of service continued until the Tenth day of June Eighteen
hundred and fifty six as will more fully appear by Bill of Sale from
said Grimes to said Brice among the records of Anne Arundel County
Court upon the petition of Thomas J. Brice the Orphans Court of
Anne Arundel County as will appear by a Certified Copy of the said
Court will more fully appear, Ordered and adjudged that the term of
service of said Negro Boy Alfred who by said Bill of Sale was to serve
the said Brice until the Tenth day of June Eighteen hundred and
fifty six be and the same is hereby extended Two years and six
months from that time to wit to the Tenth day of December Eighteen
Hundred and fifty eight and then go free
To Have and to Hold the said described Negro Boy Alfred to the Tenth
day of December Eighteen Hundred and fifty Eight to the said Charles
Willigman his Executors administrators and assigns against
him the said Thomas J. Brice, his Executors and administrators
and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall
and will warrant and forever defend by these presents
    In Witness Whereof We have hereunto set Our Hands and seals
this Fourteenth day of December Eighteen Hundred and Forty
Seven

    On this 14.th day of December 1847 personally appeared Thomas J.
Brice and Charles Willigman before the subscriber a Justice of
the peace in and for said County and acknowledge the aforegoing instrument
