me in hand paid by Baptist Mezick of the County and state aforesaid
at or before the Sealing and delivering of these presents, the receipt whereof
I the said Ann Ridout do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained
and sold, and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said
Baptist Mezick his Executors Administrators and Assigns one Negro
man Slave named George aged Twenty seven years, one Negro man Slave
named Andrew aged Twenty eight years one negro man Slave named
James aged Thirty two years one negro man Slave named Gilbert aged
Thirty years and one negro man Slave named Elijah aged Twenty four
years and now in my possession
To Have and To Hold the said negro Slaves to the said Baptist
Mezick his Executors, Administrators and Assigns forever and I the
said Ann Ridout for myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators
the aforesaid negro Slaves to the said Baptist Mezick his Executors
Administrators and Assigns against me the said Ann Ridout my Executors and
Administrators and against all and every person and persons whomsoever
shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents   Provided
nevertheless that in case I the said Ann Ridout when thereto requested
shall pay and satisfy to the said Baptist Mezick or to his Executors Administrators
or Assigns the sum of Fourteen Hundred and Fifty four Dollars
and ninety five cents with interest for the same, then this Bill
of Sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and
of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the
said negro slaves are mortgaged by me the said Ann Ridout to secure
to the said Baptist Mezick the payment of the money aforesaid and which
payment of said Sum of money to Wit  Fourteen Hundred and Fifty
four Dollars and Ninety five cents is further secured by a promissory note
under Seal executed this day by me the said Ann Ridout and my two
Securities John Ridout of H. and John Ridout both of the County aforesaid
In Witness whereof I the said Ann Ridout have hereunto set
my hand and affixed my seal this first day of November Eighteen
Hundred and Forty seven
Signed, Sealed and delivered            Ann Ridout   (Seal)
       in the presence of
       Orlando Ridout

Maryland Anne Arundel County Sc.t

On this first day of November 1847 before me one of the Justices of
the Peace in and for said County appears Ann Ridout and acknowledges
the foregoing Instrument of writing to be her act and deed
according to the true Intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly
