Bill of Sale from
George H. Grimes
                  to
Joseph Gray
Know all men by These Presents, That
I, George H. Grimes of Baltimore City and State
of Maryland, for and in consideration of the sum
of Two hundred dollars lawful money of the
United States in hand paid by Joseph Gray of
Anne Arundel County and State aforesaid at or before the sealing and
delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
Have granted bargained and sold, and by these presents Do grant, bargain
and sell, unto the said Joseph Gray his Executors Administrators and assigns
my negro man Jacob Johnson about forty nine years of age      the said
described Jacob Johnson To Have and To Hold Joseph Gray his Executors
Administrators and Assigns forever and I the said George H. Grimes
for himself his Heirs Executors and administrators, the said Negro man
Jacob Johnson unto the said Joseph Gray his Executors Administrators
and assigns, against him the said George H. Grimes his Executors and
Administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever
shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set his Hand and Seal this sixteenth
day of October Eighteen Hundred and forty seven
Signed Sealed and Delivered
          in the presence of
R. Middleton                              George H. Grimes      (Seal)
Thomas Croxall

Be it Remembered, That On this Sixteenth day of October 1847
before the Subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said City appears
George H. Grimes and acknowledges the above Instrument of
writing to be his act and deed, according to the true intent and
meaning thereof

I hereby certify That Richard Middleton Esquire before whom
the annexed Acknowledgment was made and who has thereto
subscribed his name was at the time of so doing a Justice of the
Peace of State of Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore, duly
commissioned and sworn
                         In Testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and
