State of Maryland Talbot County to wit

I hereby certify that Joshua M. Faulkner Gentleman before whom the
aforegoing acknowledgment appears to have been made and who hath
thereto subscribed  his name was at the time of so doing one of the said
States Justices of the peace in and for the County aforesaid duly commissioned
and sworn
In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the seal
of Talbot County Court this 14.th day of May Eighteen hundred and
                         forty seven

James Clark

Know all men by These presents That
I Freeborn G. Waters Executor of Charles
Waters dec.d of Baltimore City and State
of Maryland for and in consideration of the
sum of Six hundred and Twenty five dollars
lawful money of the United States secured to be paid by note by James
Clark of Baltimore County and state aforesaid at or before the sealing and
delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
Have granted bargained and sold and by these presents Do grant bargain
and sell unto the said James Clark his Executors Administrators
and assigns One Negro man named Alfred" about Twenty One
years old to be free first May Eighteen hundred and Fifty eight
(1858) and One Negro Girl named Mariah about Sixteen years
old to be free first day of May Eighteen hundred and sixty three (1863)
of the property of Charles Waters late of the City of Baltimore deceased
as slaves for the terms above mentioned and thereafter to be free and
discharged from all servitude agreeably to the form and effect of the
last Will and Testament of the said deceased the said negroes
being sold and conveyed by me as Executor and in virtue of the power
and authority vested in me by said last Will and testament
To Have and To Hold the said described negroes for the terms of years
aforesaid but no longer to the said James Clark his Executors Administrators
and Assigns as aforesaid
In Witness whereof we have hereunto set Our Hands and seals
