183 Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit On this thirtieth day of March eighteen hundred and forty seven before me the Subscriber a justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County personally appeared the above named Samuel E. Duvall and acknowledged the foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed Recorded the 30.th day of March 1847 W.m Glover
C. Gosnell of Baltimore County and State of Maryland aforesaid at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the Charity C. Gosnell her Executors administrators and assigns one negro boy named Thomas aged 10 years the 12.th of March 1847 to be free when he shall arrive at the age of twenty five years and one negro Girl named Anne aged 7 years 1.st July 1847 to be free at the age of twenty five years both the issue of one Julia Bingham whose freedom is now upon the records at Annapolis in Anne Arundel County the said negroes now in my possession. To Have and To Hold the said negroes to the said Charity C. Gosnell her executors administrators and assigns forever subject however to the conditions of their Servitude for a term of years and I the said John O Battee for myself my heirs Executors and administrators the aforesaid negroes to the said Charity C. Gosnell her Executors administrators and assigns against me the said Jno O Battee my executors and administrators and against all and every person and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents Provided nevertheless that in case I the said Jno O Battee shall pay and satisfy the said Charity C. Gosnell or to her Executors administrators or assigns the sum of one hundred and seven dollars and fifty cents with interest for the same on or before the first day of January eighteen hundred and forty nine then this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said negroes are mortgaged by me the said Jno O Battee to secure the said Charity C. Gosnell the payment of the money aforesaid. But nevertheless in the face of this clause of redemption should not the money named in this bill of sale by me my heirs executors administrators or assigns be paid over to the said C. C. Gosnell her executors administrators or assigns with interest for the same on or by the 1.st day of January 1849 then on account of such failure |
