          At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

          State of Maryland A. A. County Sct  Be it remembered and it is
hereby certified that on this eighth day of March in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty seven before the
Subscribers two Justices of the peace of Maryland in and for Anne
Arundel County aforesaid personally appears Richard Phelps he
being known to us to be the person who is named and described as
and professing to be a party to the foregoing Bill of sale or Indenture
and doth acknowledged the said Indenture or Instrument of
writing to be his act and deed.  In Testimony whereof we hereunto
subscribe our names on the day and year aforesaid

Bill of sale from Samuel E. Duvall
to William T. Gantt dated the 30.th
day of March 1847
Know all men  (             cents                 )
by these presents that I
Samuel E. Duvall of Anne
Arundel County and State
of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred
and sixty dollars current money to me in hand paid by William
T. Gantt of the County aforesaid at and before the sealing and
delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
have granted bargained and sold and by these presents
doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William T. Gantt
my negro woman Jenny aged about fifty two years a slave
for life.  To Have and To Hold the said negro woman hereby granted
and sold unto the said William T. Gantt his Executors and
administrators and assigns in trust nevertheless to and for the sole
and seperate use of Jane Gantt wife of Benjamin E Gantt and
to be subject to her disposal by any deed or instrument of writing
under her hand and seal and acknowledged before any of the justices
of the peace in the same manner and to the like extent as if she
were sole and unmarried.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and affixed my seal this thirtieth day of March eighteen
hundred and forty seven
