180 State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 26.th day of March 1847 before the Subscriber a justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appears Benjamin E. Gantt and acknowledges the aforegoing Bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Recorded the 26.th day of March 1847 W.m Glover costs 65½ cts Paid (State of Maryland stamp) ( one )
paid by Ezekiel J Stansbury of the City of Annapolis at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge and from every part and parcel thereof do hereby acquit exonerate and discharge the said Ezekiel J Stansbury his Executors and administrators have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Ezekiel J. Stansbury his Executors and administrators and assigns a negro Girl named Ellen being one of those negroes who were conveyed to me Editha Williams by a Bill of sale bearing date the fifteenth day of April in the year eighteen hundred and forty four from one Edward C Williams and which is recorded in Liber W.S. G No 2 folio 234 one of the personal Record Books of Anne Arundel County and which the said Editha afterwards conveyed to the said John W. Williams by a bill of sale bearing date the tenth of October eighteen hundred and forty five and recorded in Liber L. H. N no 1 folios 65 &s a personal Record Book of Anne Arundel County Court. To Have and To Hold the said negro Girl Ellen a slave for life unto the said Ezekial J. Stansbury his Executors Administrators and assigns for ever to and for his and their only proper use and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever. And the said John W. Williams for himself his heirs Executors and administrators the said negro slave unto the said Ezekial J. Stansbury his Executors administrators and assigns against him the said John W Williams his Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whosoever shall and will warrant and defend by these presents. In witness whereof I the said John W. Williams do hereunto set my hand & affix my seal this first day of February in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty seven John W.
