178 Joshua Stewart John F Bird (seal) At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County S. S Be it remembered that on this nineteenth day of March 1847 before the Subscriber a justice of the peace for said County appears F. G. Waters Exr as aforesaid & John F Bird and acknowledges the above Instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before Joshua Stewart Recorded the 23.rd day of March 1847 Ex d d costs 62½ cts paid (State of Maryland stamp) ( one )
States secured to be paid by note by George D Olier Gowan of Anne Arundle County & State aforesaid at or before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained & sold & by these presents do grant bargain & sell unto the said George D Olier Gowan his executors administrators & assigns one negro man named John aged about seventeen years bought out of the estate of Charles Waters late of Baltimore City deceased as a slave to serve until the first day of May eighteen hundred & sixty four (1864) & thereafter to be free & discharged from servitude agreeably to the form & effect of the last will & testament of the said deceased. The said negro being sold & conveyed by me as owner in virtue of Bill of sale given by F G Waters Exr of Charles Waters deceased bearing date 19.th day of March 1847. To Have & to hold the said described negro man John for the term of years aforesaid & no longer to the said George D. Olier Gowan his Exrors administrators & assigns as aforesaid In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & seals this twenty second day of March eighteen hundred & forty seven Signed sealed & delivered John F Bird (seal) in the presence of Joseph Chaney G. D. O.
