aforesaid but no longer to the said James S Waters his Executors administrators
and assigns as aforesaid.  In Witness whereof we have hereunto set our Hands
and Seals this sixth day of January eighteen hundred and forty seven

At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

Be it remembered.  That on this sixth day of January 1847 before the
Subscriber a justice of the peace for said County appears F. G. Waters as
Executor aforesaid & James S Waters and acknowledges the above Instrument
of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning
thereof                                                Acknowledged before

Bill of sale from Elizabeth Merriken
to John Ridout of Horace dated the 31.st
day of December 1846
 Know all men                   (State of Maryland stamp)
by these presents              (                50                  )
that I Elizabeth Merriken   (             Cents                )
of Anne Arundel County
and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred
and fifty dollars (($550.00) current money of Maryland to me in hand
paid by John Ridout of H. of the aforesaid County and State the receipt
whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and
delivered and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto
the said John Ridout of H my negro man Allen a Slave for life now
about twenty years old and which Slave was purchased from the
estate of the late Charles Duvall of Prince Georges County in said State
and which said negro Allen a slave for life I will warrant and
forever defend to the said John Ridout of H. his Executors administrators
and assigns against me my heirs executors administrators and
against every other person or persons forever  In Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my name and affixed my seal on this thirty first day of December
eighteen hundred and forty six (1846)
