At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit

       State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit

Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 27.th day of October
in the year eighteen hundred and forty six before the Subscriber a justice
of the peace for the County and State aforesaid personally appears the within
named Thomas S Alexander and John Johnson and acknowledge the
within bill of sale or instrument of writing to be their act and deed for the purposes
therein mentioned

Bill of sale from Nicholas Brewer to
Elihu S. Riley dated the twenty first day
of October eighteen hundred and forty six
This deed made this twenty
first day of October in the
year eighteen hundred and forty
six between Nicholas Brewer
of the City of Annapolis in the State of Maryland of the one part and Elihu
S. Riley of the City and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the
said Nicholas Brewer for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred
dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said Elihu Riley at
or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these
presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Elihu S. Riley
the following negroes slaves of him the said Nicholas Brewer to
wit Rachel Ringgold aged thirty two years on the twentieth of September
last and her female child Nancy aged two years on the twenty
eighth day of February next the said Rachel and Nancy to serve
until they shall have respectively have attained the age of thirty
five years and the issue of said Rachel and Nancy and their issue forever
to serve until they shall have attained the same age.  To Have
and to hold the said negroes slaves as aforesaid and their issue as aforesaid
to the said Elihu S. Riley his executors administrators and assigns for
and during their respective terms as aforesaid.  In Witness whereof the
said Nicholas Brewer and Elihu S. Riley have hereto set their hands
and affixed their seals the day and year first herein before written
