by Randolph S. Cromwell of the County and State aforesaid the receipt I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Randolph S. Cromwell my negro girl Caroline who is twelve years old July 6.th 1846 to serve him and his heirs until she arrives to the age of thirty years old and no longer making a term of 18 years and then to be free if the laws of the State will admit of the same at that time first to revert back to Joseph Cole or his heirs which said Girl Caroline I will warrant and defend to the said Randolph S. Cromwell his Executors administrators and assigns against me my Executors and administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this eighth day of August in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty six Caroline is to be free on July the 6.th 1864 Joseph Cole (seal) State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this Eighth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six before the Subscribers a justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County personally appears Joseph Cole he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as in the foregoing deed or indenture and doth acknowledge the said indenture or instrument of writing to be his act and deed. Carr of the said County and state of the other part Witnesseth that the said Robert H Carr for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the said John Carr the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and for and in order to secure a seperate maintenance and support for his wife Sarah D Carr and her children hath granted bargained sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto |
