108 presents. It being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said three negroes now mortgaged or conveyed shall be released from the ownership of the said George D Lyles his Executors or administrators or assigns is within the time appointed provided he is paid off and ratified for all sums of money which be in justice and equity holds against the said Juliet Ann Lyles as payments received for these three negroes William Charles and Ann then this Bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said negro Slaves are mortgaged by me the said Juliet Ann Lyles to secure to George D Lyles the payment of money as aforesaid In witness whereof I the said Juliet Ann Lyles have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the eleventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty six Signed Sealed and delivered Julliet Ann Lyles (seal) in the presence of us Robert S. D. Jones Dennis Lyles At the foot of the foregoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland A. A. County to wit On this the eleventh day of May 1846 before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for the aforesaid State and County appears Juliet Ann Lyles and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be her act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Act of Assembly in such a case made and provided Witness my hand and seal Recorded the 12.th day of May 1846 Robert S. D Jones J. P. (seal) costs 75 cts Paid
money to me in hand paid by James Sands of Annapolis City in the said State at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Bela Dexter do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said James Sands his executors administrators and assigns all the goods household stuff implements and furniture herein after mentioned that is to say one hundred and twelve yards carpeting fifteen yards oil cloth one bureau four tables two dozen Chairs three looking glasses |
