379 for and in consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars to him in hand by the and George W Richardson paid hath ^given^ granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain and sell to the said George W all his right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of in and to the services of George Taylor oa Colored man now in possession of said Francis Thomas in Anne Arundel County aforesaid the said George being bound to serve the said Thomas as a servant or slave to the first day of may Eighteen hundred and forty and after which time the said George is entitled to his freedom In Witness whereof we have hereto set our hands and affixed our seals the day and year first above written Francis Thomas (seal) Witness R Welch of Ben Geo W Richardson (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County State of maryland ss Know all men that Francis Thomas party seller in the above instrument of writing and known to me to be such and George W Richardson party purchaser ^in^ the aforegoing instrument known to me to be such and to be a resident as therein stated of the City of Baltimore in the State of maryland personally appear before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for Anne arundel County and State aforesaid and acknowledged the said instrument of writing to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned paid R Welch of Ben Justice of the peace Ex d d 48 3 Recorded the 7 day of January 1845 Whereas I Howard M Duvall of Anne Arundel County State of maryland stand indebted to Harriet C Knighton of the County and State aforesaid in the sum of six hundred and twenty two dollars and eighty six cents And whereas for the purpose of securing the said sum of money I am willing to Execute these presents Now know all men by these presents tat I Howard M Duvall of for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one dollar to me paid have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto Harriet C Knighton the following property to wit one negro man Robert aged about 30 years together with my household furniture and personal Estate of every kind and description To have and To hold the same unto the said Harriet C Knighton his Executors administrators and assigns for ever Provided and these presents are upon this condition that if the said Howard M Duvall shall well and truly pay unto the said Harriet C Knighton his Executors administrators and assigns the said sum of six hundred and twenty two dollars and Eighty six Cents with (which) |
