353 Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of her Wm T Whittington Mary Welch Susan x Owens (seal) mark On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Be it remembered that on this twenty Eighth day of August one thousand Eight hundred and forty four before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appears Susan Owens and acknowledges the within bill of sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the Negroes therein mentioned to be the right and Estate of Edwin Augustus Owens party grantee also therein mentioned his heirs and assigns forever according to the true intent and meaning thereof according to the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided And I further Certify that the said Susan Owens is personally known to me to be the Identical person signing and sealing the same In have and Certified the day and year above written Exd d d Acknowledged before James Higgins J. P. 3½ 50 paid Recorded the 29th day of August 1844 Know all men by these presents that I Elijah Williams administrator of John H Owen's Estate of A. A. County and State of maryland for the conservation of the sum of two hundred and six dollars twenty five Cents current money to me in hand paid by William Shipley of the County and State aforesaid the recipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said William J Shipley a negro boy Ben a slave bourn December 19 1825 and to serve untill he arrives at the age of thirty one years and the to be free as well more fully appear by refering to the will of Ephram Duvall late of A A County which slave Ben I will warrant and defend to the said William Shipley his Executors and administrators and against me my Executors and administrators and against any other person or persons whatsoever In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this of August 1844 Elijah Williams (seal) Witness Robert Boone Wm Shipley (seal) At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Maryland A A County sct On this 2nd day of September 1844 personally appeared Elijah Williams administrator of John H [illegible] and acknowledged the above bill of sale to be his act and deed and the true intent and meaning thereof And act of assembly in such case made and provided Witness my hand Robert Boone Ex d d 2½ paid Recorded the 4 day of September 1844 |
