Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty nine between Ambrose B
Owens of Anne Arundel County and state of maryland of the one part and
James Lea of the same County and state of the other part to wit  Whereas the
said Ambrose B Owens by his nine promissory notes each bearing date
the Eighth of April Eighteen hundred and thirty nine and payable
at the end of one two three four five six seven eight and nine months
in equal sums of four hundred and forty two dollars and forty seven 1/9 cents
owes and stands justly indebted to the said James Lea in the sum of three
thousand nine hundred and Eighty two dollars and twenty four Cents and
to secure the payment thereof is willing to Execute these presents  Now this
Indenture Witnesseth that the said Ambrose B Owens for and in
consideration of the sum premises and of the sum of five dollars Current
money to him in hand paid by the said James Lea at or ^and^ before the sealing
and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant
bargain and sell unto the said James Lea ll and singular the goods
wares and merchandise hereinafter mentioned that is to say fifty one
peices of calico ten pieces of Casmere five pieces of silk five boxes of ribbons
fifty pair of pantaloons ten pieces of flannel ten pieces of ticking ten
pieces of muslin fifty umbrellas twelve pieces of coarse Kersey four chests
of tea eight thousand cigars four boxes of tobacco a lot of queensware tin
and earthen ware six kegs of nails ten bundles of knives twenty pair of
Skates ten pair of halter chains four bags of Coffee eight hundred pounds
of sugar one hogshead of molasses one lot of drugs one dray and harness
a lot of fixtures to wit Scales weights measures cans & jars all of which
articles are now in the possession of the said Ambrose B Owens in the
building at Ellicotts Mills lately occupied as a Store by the said
James Lea  To have and to hold all and singular the goods wares
and merchandize afore mentioned unto the said James Lea his
Executors administrators and assigns to his and their own use and
behoof  Provided always and it is hereby declared to be the true
intent and meaning of these presents that if the said Ambrose B
Owens do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid to the said
James Lea his Executors administrators or assigns the full sum of three
thousand nine hundred and Eighty two dollars and twenty four Cents
according to the tenor of the nine promissory notes above mentioned
then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing herein
Contained shall Cease determine determine and be utterly void and of
