described property above bargained and sold to the said Wm H Wood his Executors
administrators and assigns forever to his and their only proper use and benefit
and I the said Samuel Sunderland for myself my Executors and administrators
shall and will warrant and for ever defend by these presents the said Wm H Wood
his Executors administrators and assigns the said described property against me
my Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons
whomsoever claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof  In Testimony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the ninth day of May in the year
of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty four
Signed Sealed and delivered in the presents of      Samuel Sunderland   (seal)
    Lewis Sutton Sr    Phillip D Sutton

          At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    State of Md A A Co to wit  On this 9th day of may 1844 before me one of the Justices
of the peace in and for the State and County aforesaid appeared Saml Sunderland
and acknowledged the above or foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and
deed and the property therein named to be the right and Estate of the therein named
William H Wood upon the Condition only therein declared and hereby understood as
collateral security for the sum of money therein described with the interest thereon their
due as to him an indemnity for the sum as aforesaid and for no other purpose
according to the true intent and meaning of the same and the Act of Assembly in
such a case made and provided

       This Indenture made this Eleventh day of may in the year Eighteen
hundred and forty four  Between Edward C Williams of Anne Arundel County
in the State of maryland of the one part and Henry E Ballard of the said
State and County of the other part  Witnesseth that the said Williams for and
in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars to him in hand paid by
the said Ballard the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained
sold and delivered and hereby doth grant bargain sell and deliver unto the
said Ballard two negro men now in the said County one named Perry aged
about twenty five years and one named Bill Hall aged about twenty five years
who were manumitted by the last will and testament of Edward C Williams
deceased now one record in the office of the Register of Wills of the said County
bearing date the twenty third of April Eighteen hundred and thirty five
after they severally served the said Edward C Williams the legatee and his
assigns for fifteen years from the date of the said will  To have and To hold
