30 day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and thirty nine personly appeared Benjamin W Lusby party grantor in the writen Conveyance before the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the County and state aforesaid and acknowledged the within conveyance to be his act and deed and the negro woman named Mary Ann to be the property of Henry Lecompte Lusby party grantor also therein named according to the true intent and meaning thereof Exd d d Acknowledged Before Thos R Cross paid 3 Recorded the 3d day of April 1839 Know all Men by these presents that I James Webb of Anne Arundel County State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the natural love and affection which I beareth unto my Daughter Mary Edge Woodward I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and declared to the said Mary Edge Woodward and ^by^ these presents do grant bargain and deliver unto the said Mary negro girl named Emma about thirteen or fourteen years of age a slave for life her and her increase for ever to the said Mary and her heirs for ever To have and To hold the same described property And I the said James Webb for myself will warrant and defend the said Emma against all and every other person or persons whomsoever claiming the same In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my seal this twentieth day of October 1838 Sighed Sealed and delivered in presence of on the ninth day of April 1839 James Webb (seal) Wm Bryan (seal) Joseph Sands (seal) On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this ninth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty nine before the subscribers two Justices of the peace of the state of maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared James Webb and doth acknowledge the within Indenture or Instrument of writing to be his act and deed In testimony whereof we hereunto subscribe our names on the day and year aforesaid Exd d d W.m Bryan (seal) Joseph Sands (seal) paid 2¾ Recorded the 9.th day of April 1839 |
