31 County and state of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar lawful money of the United States in hand paid by Thomas Matthews of said County & State aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Matthews his Executors administrators and assigns a negro Girl called & known by the name of Rachel now being about the age of 14 years to serve the said Thomas Matthews until she arrives to the age of twenty years at which time she is to be free in accordance with a Manumission from Edward J Woodyear recorded amongst the Records of Baltimore County Court in Liber No 35 folio 201 &.c To have and To hold the above mentioned Girl to the said Thomas Matthews his Executors administrators and assigns for the above time and I the said Nancy Bears for myself my heirs Executors and administrators the said Girl unto the said Thomas Matthews his Executors administrators and assigns against me the said Nancy my Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and defend by these presents In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and seal this nineteenth day of March Eighteen hundred and thirty nine Signed Sealed and Delivered in her the presence of Nancy x Bears (seal) Abner Linthicum Mark At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County Ss. Be it remembered that on this nineteenth day of March 1839 before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace for said County appears Nancy Bears and acknowledges the above Instrument of writing to be her act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before Abner Linthicum paid Recorded the 20th day of April 1839 Know all men by these presents that I Richard M Chase of the City of Annapolis Anne Arundel County and state of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Five dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Hester Ann Chase the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have given granted bargained and sold and by these presents do give give grant bargain and sell unto her the said Hester Ann Chase one negro man named William Bowzer aged about thirty years To have and To hold the said negro to her the said Hester Ann Chase her heirs and assigns also all my China Cut glass and all the Silver Plate with which I am assessed to her the said Hester Ann Chase her heirs (and) |
