278 At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County to wit Be it remembered That on this fifth day of September in the year Eighteen hundred and forty three before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of maryland in and for said County personally appeared Richard C Hardesty known to me as the Identical person named and described as and professing to be the party grantor in the aforegoing instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed Exd d d Acknowledged before and Certified by J W Hunter chd 70 5¼ Recorded the 21 day of September 1843 This Indenture made this nineteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty three Between John Miller of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland of the one part and William Sewell administrator of Lewis N Sewell of the same County and State aforesaid of the other part Whereas the said John Miller and a certain Adam Miller owe and stand justly indebted to the said William Sewell as administrator of Lewis N Sewell in the sum of one thousand one hundred and Eighty dollars Current money by their note dated the twenty seventh day of May in the year Eighteen hundred and forty three and to secure the payment thereof the said John Miller is willing to Execute these presents Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said John Miller for and in consideration of the premises and of the sum of one dollar Current money to him in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said William Sewell administrator as aforesaid and his assigns the following Negro Slaves Daphne aged about seventy years Charity aged about seventy years Fanny aged about forty years Charles aged about twenty two years Eliza aged about Eighteen years Richard aged about fourteen years Nancy aged about ten years & Rose about Eight years slaves for life also the following negroes to serve for a term of years John about fourteen years Richard about ten years and Joshua about fourteen years also six horses two miles three pair of oxen fourteen head of horned Cattle sixteen sheep six ploughs six harrows and Cultivators one wagon & harness one ox Cart two horse Carts one Carriage and harness and also all his household and kitchen furniture now in his possession To have and To hold all and singular the aforesaid property herein before granted bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be unto the said (William) |
