Warfield and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly
in such Cases made and provided               S Gambrill

5      Recorded the 5th day of March 1839


Know all Men by these presents that I Marshal Pool of Anne
Arundel County in the state of maryland for and in Consideration of the
following premises to wit that Fielder Gray shall remain with and serve
me during my life time free of all charge for wages or shall pay me the
said Marshall Pool the sum of three hundred dollars Current Money
in lieu thereof and also for the further Consideration of the sum of one
dollar Current money by the said Fielder Gray to me in hand paid
at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt
whereof I the said Marshal Pool doth hereby acknowledge have granted
bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell
unto said Fielder Gray my negro woman named Sophia wife of said
Fielder Gray aged about twenty five years of age  To have and To hold
the said negro woman for the term of five years from the time of my
death together with all the children she may have after the date
of these presents to serve if males to the age of twenty one years and females
to age of Eighteen years and after the Expiration of the above
named periods the woman and Children as they shall severally arrive
at the termination said periods to be free Provided Nevertheless that
the said Fielder is not to have possession of the said negro woman until
after the period of my death or on the payment of the abovenamed
three hundred dollars  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal on this seventh day of March in the year of our Lord
One thousand Eight hundred and thirty nine

             On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

State of maryland Anne Arundel County Sc.t  On this seventh day of
March in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirty
nine personally appeared before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace
of said State in and for County aforesaid Marshall Pool known to me
to be the party to the within Instrument and acknowledged the same
to be his act and deed for the purposes therein named
