22 At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Be it Remembered that on this fifth day of March in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty nine before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland in and for Anne Arundel County personally appears Nicholas Martin agent and attorney of Thomas Mulliken both of Talbott County and Theodorick Bland of Anne Arundel County and Execute the aforegoing Instrument of writing in Anne Arundel County aforesaid where the aforesaid sale was made and acknowledge the same to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned according to the acts of assembly in such Case made and provided Gabriel H Duvall Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Mulliken of Talbott County in the state of maryland do hereby Constitute and Appoint Nicholas Martin Esquire of the said County and State to be my true and lawful attorney and agent with full power and authority to sell and Convey my negro woman named Harriett aged about twenty two years and about five feet and two inches high and of a black Colour who is my slave for the Term of four years from the first day of January last and to deliver her to any purchaser he may select on the receipt by him of the purchase money therefor according to the laws of this state in as full and ample a manner in my name as I myself could and have authority to do and also in my name and for me to warrant and defend the right title and interest so to be conveyed in the said negro woman to the purchaser thereof In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this first day of March in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty nine Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of Thos Mulliken (seal) Barnett Parrott At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of maryland Talbot County Sct Be it remembered that on this first day of March in the year Eighteen hundred and thirty nine before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the said State in and for the County aforesaid personally appears the above named Thomas Mulliken and acknowledges the aforegoing power of attorney as his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof paid Solomon Mulliken a Justice of the Peace Exd d d 11.03 Recorded the 5.th day of March 1839 |
