207 in this Bill of sale to the said Charity C Gosnell her executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Dennis H Battee for myself my heirs executors and administrators the aforesaid property as already specified and named to the said Charity C Gosnell her executors administrators and assigns against me the said Dennis H Battee my executors and administrators and against all and every person and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents Provided nevertheless that in case I the said Dennis H Battee shall pay and satisfy to the said Charity C Gosnell or to her executors administrators and assigns the Sum of one hundred and Ninety three dollars with interest for the Same for which Sum the said Charity C Gosnell now holds my note bearing the Same date with this bill of sale when said note is paid and settled then on or before the 13.th of October 1844 Then this bill of sale and every matter and thing therein expressed shall be void and of none effect it being the true intent and meaning thereof that the said property as named and specified in this bill of sale is mortgaged by me the said Dennis H Battee to secure the said Charity C Gosnell the payment of the money aforesaid In witness whereof I the said Dennis H Battee have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 13 day of october 1844 Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of D H Battee (seal) Saml H Hamilton B B Elliott On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne dle County to wit On this 13th day of October 1844 before me one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County appears Dennis H Battee and acknowledges the foregoing writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such case made and provided Acknowledged Before Sam.l H Hamilton Exd d d chd 63 5 Recorded the 21st day of October 1842 Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin E Gantt of Anne Arundel County for the purpose of securing payment of the debts hereinafter mentioned and in Consideration of the sum of one dollar Current money to me in hand paid by Thomas S Alexander of said County at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Alexander his executors administrators and assigns one negro man named Frederick one negro man named Jacob one negro Girl named Grace and one negro girl named Minty which slaves are now in my possession together with their increase To have and To hold the said negro slaves and their increase unto and to the use of the said Alexander his Executors (administrators) |
