          At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

       State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit  On this 25 day of October in the year
1842 personally appeared Richard R Goodwin before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace
in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid and acknowledged the foregoing deed or
instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned according
to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in in such case
made and provided                  Acknowledged before      Wm Glover

       Whereas Jeremiah Hughes of Annapolis is indebted unto the Farmers Bank of
Maryland and Nicholas Brewer Junior administrator of Nicholas Brewer Senior is also
indebted unto the said Bank as the Security of said Hughes and whereas the said
Bank and Brewer are secured in the premises by the mortgage and pledge of the newspaper
called The Maryland Republican the type presses printing furniture and all
materials and implements of trade used by connected with or in any manner appertaining
to the printing office in which said paper has been conducted by the said Jeremiah
Hughes to them respectively and whereas the said Paper and its subscription list and good
will and connected with the said Printing Office to Elihu S Riley and Samuel Davis
of the City of Annapolis for the sum of nineteen hundred dollars secured by these notes dated
first of September Eighteen hundred and forty two payable in twelve and twenty four
months with James T Day and John Beard as securities on one and John Beard and
William Riley on the other with Interest payable thereon every sixty days until
the maturity of said Principal Sums and whereas the said Bank and Brewer
have agreed to release the property so as aforesaid purchased by the said Elihu S
Riley and Samuel Davis from the said Jeremiah Hughes upon the payment of the
said notes for nineteen hundred dollars  Now this Indenture witnesseth that the
said Jeremiah Hughes for and in consideration of the above recited premises has
bargained and sold delivered and by these presents doth bargain sell and deliver
unto the said Elihu S Riley and Samuel Davis all and The singular the said
Maryland Republican and premises and appurtenances herein before described
to have and to hold the same to their own sole use provided however that the same
shall be and remain as a pledge and mortgage and liable for the payment of the
said two notes and to the holders thereof whether the said Hughes the said Bank
Brewer Junr administrator as aforesaid or their securities the said James T Day John
Beard and William Riley or their assigns and upon the payment of the said
two notes be released and discharged from this present obligation and remain to the
said Elishu S Riley and Samuel Davis as their own absolute property  In Testimony
