184 On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit On this Eighteenth day of June Eighteen hundred and forty two before us two Justices of the peace for Anne Arundel County personally appear Thomas H Knighton and acknowledge the foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the said Thomas H Knighton is personally known to us to be the same person named and described as and professing to be party to the said instrument of writing chd Wm Glover J W Hunter .53cts 4 Recorded the 18th day of June 1842 This Indenture made this Eighteenth day of June Eighteen hundred and forty two between Thomas H Knighton of Anne Arundel County and state of maryland of the one part and Charles Clagett of the same County of the other part whereas the said Thomas H Knighton owes and stands indebted to the said Charles Clagett in the sum of three thousand six hundred and twenty nine dollars and fifty cents and to secure the payment thereof with interest from the fifteenth day of November in the year Eighteen hundred and forty one is willing to execute these presents Now this Indenture Witnesseth that the said Thomas H Knighton in consideration of the premises and of the Sum of five dollars to him in hand paid at the expiration of these presents has granted bargained and sold and by these presents does grant bargain and sell unto the said Charles Clagett his Executors administrators and assigns the following personal property to wit one negro man named Ned all my farming utensils two pair oxen four horses one cow and yealing ten head of hogs two beds and furniture Eight Chairs one desk two tables china ware and all other furniture of the said Thomas H Knighton To have and To hold the same unto the said Thomas H Knighton his Executors administrators and assigns forever Provided however and it is the true intent and meaning of the parties to these presents that if the said Thomas H Knighton his Executors administrators sale pay or cause to be paid to the said Charles Clagett his Executors administrators or assigns the said Sum of money above mentioned in five equal annual instalments bearing interest from the fifteenth day of november last as foresaid then this Indenture shall be void otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue In Witness whereof the said Thomas H Knighton has hereto set his hand and seal the day and year first aforesaid Signed Sealed and delivered in the presence of Thomas H Knighton (seal) J W Hunter At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Maryland to wit On this Eighteenth day of June Eighteen hundred and forty two (before) |
