163 that on this Twenty fourth day of February in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and forty two before us the Subscribers two Justices of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore personally appeared Benjamin Robinson a party to the foregoing Indenture or Instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and on the same day and year personally appeared Harriet Robinson wife of the said Benjamin Robinson who in our presence but out of the presence and hearing of her said husband signed and sealed the foregoing Indenture or Instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and the said Harriet being by us privately examined out of the presence and hearing of her said husband declared and said that she executed and acknowledged the same freely and voluntarily and without being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband or fear of his displeasure and we do hereby further Certify that of our own knowledge we are Satisfied that the said Benjamin Robinson and Harriet are the persons named and described as and professing to be parties to the said Indenture or Instrument of writing In Witness whereof we have hereunto Subscribed our names the day and year aforesaid Jesse Cloud John Walter State of Maryland Baltimore County Sct I hereby Certify that Jesse Cloud and John Walter Gentlemen before whom the above acknowledgments were taken and who have signed their names to the Certificate thereof were at the time of so doing a Justice of the peace of the state of maryland in and for the City of Baltimore duly Commissioned and Sworn In Testimony whereof I hereto set my name & affix (Seal) the seal of Baltimore County Court this 24 day of February 1842 1.13 Thos Kell Clk Balt Coty Ct paid 10½ Recorded the 25th day of February 1842 Know all men by these presents that I Philip Clayton Dep Shff of the City of Annapolis and state of maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of Eighty five dollars Current money to me in hand paid by John Randall of the City and state aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said John Randall a negro man named Jerry Ross which said negro was seized and taken in Execution by me as the Deputy Sheriff of Ann Arundel County as the property of a certain Gustavus Barber to sales by a debt we by the said Gustavus R Barber to a Certain John Sands & others and which said negro was manumated by a Certain John Ridgely then of the said City of Annapolis and now of the state of Ohio by deed bearing date the Sixth day of april 1836 to be found among the records of Anne Arundel County reference being thereto had will more fully and at large appear and which said negro under said deed is to serve until the 14 day of may Eighteen hundred and forty four (To) |
