155 Deb 14 and younger vizt Amanda William Mary & Thomas between the ages of 10 & 2 children of Polly Wallace aged about 38 or 40 James Henry 15 Eliza 12 children of Julia dec.d Becky 35 Sarah Ann her daughter 15 James Jackson 21 George Jackson 18 William Jackson 14 Billy Boston 33 Peggy Jackson 45 and 3 girls Amelia Ellen & Martha aged from 21 to 10 Lavima 30 Mary 10 Ben 3 & Ellen 1 her children Caroline & her two children from 1 to 3 Margaret & Daniel Sally 20 Clementina daughter of Peggy Jackson 10 Kitty Lucy Deb Butler & Judg woman from 50 to 60 and somewhat infirm and all other negroes I may own or possess also my household goods plate Books and furniture of every description that I now own and be possessed also all the stock of horses mules Hogs Deer Sheep horned cattle and other live stock I may be possessed of also all the carriages carts wagons threshing machines Ploughs Harrows Harness & every other kind of agricultural tool and Implement I may now own & be possessed of also all crops of Tobacco Grain Hay or straw gathered or growing on the land of the said Margaret Mercer or the land owned by me and finally all the personal property of any kind and description I now own and am possessed of To have and To hold al and singular the said Negroes goods household Stuff and furniture and other the premises above bargained & sold or mentioned and intended so to be unto the said Margaret Mercer her Executors administrators & assigns forever Provided Nevertheless and these presents are upon that Condition that when the said Margaret Mercer shall have been unpaid the advances & payments so made by her on my account to the said Bank of the United States and shall have been paid the aforesaid sum so due to her as aforesaid for Rent of the present year and for rent in arrear and shall also have been released acquitted and discharged from all accountabilities as my security on the aforesaid debts to the Bank of the United States and the Farmers Bank of Maryland the first now amounting to about two thousand dollars and the latter to four thousand dollars then and in that case this Bill of sale and every matter and thing therein contained to be null and void otherwise to be & remain in full force & virtue In Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand & affixed my seal this 5th Feby 1842 Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of Jn.o Mercer (seal) C Clapham At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel Cty to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this 5th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty two before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in & for the County aforesaid personally appeared John Mercer he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as & professing to be a party to (the) |
