from all and every loss or damage whatsoever the aforesaid Benjamin E Gantt Stephen
Gambrill John Sewell and John Rice which they may or shall sustain as sureties
aforesaid of the said Passmore McCullough then and in such case these presents and
every matter and thing herein Contained shall cease determine and be utterly void
to all intents and purposes anything herein contained to the Contrary thereof in any
wise notwithstanding  In Witness whereof the aforesaid Passmore McCullough hath
hereunto subscribe his name and affixed his seal on the day and year first before
written

                               At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    State of Maryland  Be it remembered that on this fourth day of February
in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty two before the
Subscriber of the state of maryland a Justice of the Peace for Anne Arundel County
personally appeared Passmore McCullough party grantor in the annexed instrument
of writing and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed and I am satisfied
of my own knowledge that the party acknowledging the same is the party grantor
mentioned in said deed  Acknowledged before

    Know all Men by these presents that I John Mercer of Ann Arundel County
in the state of maryland being indebted to my sister Margaret Mercer of Loudoun County
in state of virginia in the sum of one thousand dollars for ^the^ rent of her farm upon which
I reside for the year now commenced & running on and which rent I have agreed
to pay in advance & secure to her and being also indebted to her in a large sum
for advances made by her on my account to the Bank of the United States and
for and in Consideration of her having come under heavy responsibilities for me
still hanging over her & for which she and her property are liable to said Bank
of the United States and to the Farmers Bank of Maryland and I being also
indebted to my said sister in a large sum of money to wit the sum of sixteen
thousand dollars for rent in arrears and unpaid have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain & sell to the said Margaret
Mercer her Executors administrators & assigns all my negroes now mentioned and
described as follows to wit  Samuel aged about 45 David 45 James Boston 40 Nat
30 Daniel 25 Ben 21 Henry 15 sons of Kitty  Jack 30 Tom 28 Moses 22 Betsy 18
Beck 13 children of Lucy Simon 26 George 24 Harry 56 Sam Wallace 18 Penny 16
