150 one negro woman named Susan Butler aged about nineteen years which negroes are now remaining in the possession of the said William Drury of Henry To have and To hold the said negroes unto the said Enoch Sheckells and George W Lawrence and the survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor forever to their only proper use and behoof and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever Provided always and it is hereby declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents and of the parties hereto that if the said William Drury of Henry his Executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid to the said Somerville Pinkney or his Successors or assigns the aforesaid sum of three hundred dollars with interest as aforesaid and thus save harmless and indemnify the said Enoch Sheckells and George W Lawrence their Executors and administrators from loss and injury then this Indenture and every matter and thing therein Contained shall cease and be utterly void anything therein Contained to the Contrary thereof in any wise notwithstanding In Witness whereof the said William Drury of Henry hath hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal the day and year first above written Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of William Drury of H (seal) J W Hunter At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County to wit On this 28 day of December 1841 personally appears William Drury of Henry before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace and for said County and acknowledges the aforegoing deed or instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned according to the purport true intent and meaning of said deed or Instrument of writing and the acts of assembly in such case made and provided Taken and Certified by J W Hunter Exd d d chd 66cts 5¼ Recorded the 29 day of December 1841 Know all Men by these presents that I Vachel Sewell of Anne Arundel County and State of maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of Eighty six dollars and sixty Eight cents Current money to me in hand paid by Henry & Thomas Purdy of the County and state aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Vachel Sewell do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Henry & Thomas Purdy their Executors administrators and assigns one sorrel mare and 1 Cow all my farming utensils and all my House hold Furnature now in my possession To have and To hold the said property to the said Henry and Thomas Purdy their Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Vachel Sewell for myself my heirs Executors and administrators the above said property to the said Henry & |
