13 of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof And the act of assembly in such Case made and provided Exd d d Edward Dubois chd 53 4 Recorded the 3d day of January 1839 Know all men by these presents that I John H Mangun of Anne Arundel County and State of Maryland for the Consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Samuel Watkins (a free man of Color) of the County and state aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Samuel Watkins all the right title and claim that I have in virtue of my intermarriage with Elizabeth Ann Atwell daughter of the late Joseph Atwell in and to negro woman Kitty who by the last will and Testament of the said Joseph Atwell was devised to his wife Elizabeth Atwell during her single or natural life and at her death or marriage then to his daughter Elizabeth Ann now Mangun which said negro Kitty is now in the possession of Joseph Atwell Jun.r and to serve him until the death or marriage of Elizabeth Atwell widow of the late Joseph Atwell In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20th day of December 1838 his In presence of Rinaldo Pindell John H x Mangun (seal) mark At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit Anne Arundel County to wit On this 20 Decr 1838 Came John H Mangun before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the foregoing Instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such Case made and provided Rinaldo Pindell Received this 14 March 1838 of Samuel Watkins a Colored man the sum of Fifty dollars in part for a negro woman Kitty which the said Watkins has for a wife and is now in the possession of Mr Joseph Atwell which said negro woman I hereby agree to give a bill of sale of all my right to when the said Watkins shall pay the balance of the purchase money $50.00 his Witness Rinaldo Pindell John H x Mangun Exd d d mark chd .46 3¼ Recorded the 5th day of January 1839 Whereas Charles Clegett and Allen Marriott of Anne Arundel County at the Instance and request of Francis Brashears of Said County have become bound unto Thomas S Alexander of said County Trustee for the sale of the real Estate of (Benjamin) |
