111 Know all men by these presents that I Enoch Sheckell of Anne Arundel County in Consideration that Francis Shekell of the same County is security or about to be security on a note of hand for the said Enoch Shekell given to R Estep & Henry A Hall for the sum of Five hundred and seven dollars with interest thereon from the 15th day of April 1837 and also in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Francis Sheckell the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Francis Shekell one negro boy named Peter about twenty five years of age a slave for life two yoke of oxen one ox Cart one bay horse one bay mare one bay Colt & one Roan Colt which negro and other personal property is now in my possession To have and to hold the said described property above bargained and sold to the said Francis Shekell his Executors administrators and assigns for ever to his and their proper use and benefit and I the said Enoch Shekell for myself my heirs Executors and administrators shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents the aforesaid negro & other personal property to the said Francis Shekell his Executors administrators and assigns against all and every person or persons whomsoever claiming the same or any part thereof shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents Provided Nevertheless that in case I the said Enoch Shekell shall pay and satisfy the note above mentioned with the legal interest therein and shall well and truly indemnify and save harmless the said Francis Shekell as security on the above mentioned note then this instrument of writing to be null and void anything herein contained to the Contrary thereof in any wise appertaining In Testimony whereof the said Enoch Shekell hath hereunto set his hand and seal this 12th day of January Eighteen hundred and forty one Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of or about to be security being first interlined Enoch Shekell (seal) in the 1st Page Chas Hodges At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit State of Maryland Anne Arundel County to wit On this 12th day of January Eighteen hundred and forty one personally appeared Enoch Shekell before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace for said County and State and acknowledged the foregoing Bill of sale or Instrument of writing to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and described according to the true intent & meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in such Case made & provided Chas Hodges Exd d d chd $.50cts 4 Recorded the 15th day of January 1841 Know all men by these presents that we John Thomas and Joseph Thomas of Anne Arundel County in the state of maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Forty five (dollars) |
