have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the         day of October 1840

                On the back of the aforegoing was thus written to wit

    State of maryland Ann Arundel County To wit  On this       day of October 1840
Before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for the state and
County aforesaid appears Thomas Crandle of Able and acknowledges the
within Instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent
and meaning thereof  And the act of assembly in such a case made and provided
Taken and acknowledged before      Lewis Sutton S.r

Recorded the 14th day of October 1840


          State of Maryland Ann Arundel County to wit

                            Know all men by these presents that I Abel Greenwell
of the County and state aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of sixty five
dollars and Fifty Cents Current money to me in hand paid by Dr James S Owens
of the Same state and County as aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery
hereof the receipt I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and
sold  And by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said James S
Owens his Executors administrators and assigns one small Cropped eared bay horse
and Five hundred pounds of Tobacco now a hanging in the house not yet
stripped  To have and To hold the same described property above bargained and
sold to the said Dr James S Owens his Executors administrators and assigns for ever
to his and their only proper use and benefit  And I the said Abel Greenwell for
myself my Executors administrators shall and will warrant and defend for ever
by these presents to the said Dr James S Owens his Executors administrators and
Assigns the said described property against me my Executors and administrators
and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever Claiming or to claim
the same or any part thereof  In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and affixed my seal the 24th day of October 1840

                At the foot of the aforegoing was thus written to wit:  State of M.d A A Cy to wit:
On this 24th day of October 1840 Before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace
