State of Maryland Howard County to wit:
    Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on
this twenty second day of July eighteen hundred and
fifty four before me the subscriber a Justice of the
peace of said State in and for said County personally
appears Zachariah Brown who is known to me of
my own Knowledge to be the person who is named
and described as and professing to be the party
grantor in the aforegoing deed or instrument of writing
and acknowledged the same to be ^to be^ his act and deed and
at the same time appears M.c Lane Brown the grantee
in the aforegoing deed or bill of sale and makes oath
that the consideration set forth in said deed or bill of
sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth
Sworn and acknowledged before
                                              Ignatius Waters J Peace
The interlineations made between the seventeeth and eighteenth
lines in this deed and the interlineations in the twenty third lines were
made before the signing and acknowledgment of this deed
                                              Ignatius Waters J Peace
Received on the aforegoing instrument of writing when
presented for record one dollar in lieu of stamp under
the act of 1846 Ch 61.

Concern be it Known
    Whereas on the third day
of August eighteen hundred
and thirty five  I the undersigned
M.c Lane Brown did
execute a deed of Manumission
                      whereby it was my intention to liberate my negro girl
                      Jane when she should attain the age of forty years
                      and her issue as the same should attain the age of
                      thirty five years which deed was duly recorded among
                      the manumission books of anne arundel county
                      in Liber C N.o 3 folio 567 but is believed to be defective
                      because executed as by before ^only^ one witness and whereas
                      the said Jane has since then had issue a number
                      of Children of whom are now living Charles Harriet
                      Maria George and William and it is my desire
