paid by Henry H. owings at the ensealing of these presents have this day sold and delivered to the said Henry H. Owings one negro man named Charles to serve untill the first day of April eighteen hundred and sixty one at which time he will be thirty years old and will be entitled to his freedom according to the last will and testament county deceased the said Charles being the child of a negro woman named Sophia named and described in said last will and Testament which said Negro Charles I will warrant and defend to the said Henry H. owings his heirs and assigns against me the said William simpson Administrator of Charles R. Simpson deceased and all and every person or persons claiming or to claim by or under them or either of them or their heirs or any other person whatsoever. In witness whereof we set our hands and seals this twenty eighth day of February eighteen hundred and fifty five signed sealed and delivered William Simpson (seal) in the presence of Henry H. owings (seal) R. C. Nicholson State of Maryland Howard county to wit On this twenty eighth day of February eighteen hundred and fifty five personally appears William Simpson Adm.r of Charles R. Simpson deceased and Henry H. owings being parties to the aforegoing Instrument of writing and acknowledged the same according to law. In testimony whereof I hereto set my hand the day and year above written R. C. Nicholson (seal) Maryland Howard County to wit On this 28.th day of February 1855 appears Henry H. owings and makes oath that the sale and purchase of the within named negro boy Charles is a bona fide sale & purchase. R. C. Nicholson I hereby certify that I am acquainted with the parties that signed the aforegoing Instrument |
