in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and fifty four before me the subscriber
a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland
in and for Howard County personally appears
James W. Tucker he being known to me to be
the person who is named and described as
and professing to be a party to the foregoing
deed or indenture; and doth acknowledge
the said indenture or instrument of writing
to be his act and deed.      In testimony
whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name
on the day and year aforesaid
                                  Wilson D. Warfield

    State of Maryland   Howard County
          On this 17.th day of November in the
year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifty
four personally appears Jesse N. Williams
and made oath on the Holy  vangely of Almighty
God that the consideration named in the
foregoing Instrument of writing is bona fide
just and true according to the best of his
knowledge and belief
                Sworn before Wilson D. Warfield
Received to be recorded on the 24.th day of November
1854 at 20 minutes after 3 o'clock P.M. same
day recorded & examined per

Bill of Sale to
George R Gaither
Know all Men by these presents
that I William Lee of Frederick
county & state of maryland wishing
to dispose of my servant Robert
a slave for life so that he may be free after
a service of ten years do hereby in consideration of
the sum of five hundred dollars to me in hand paid
by a certain George R. Gaither the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged bargain sell transfer &
make over to the said George R. Gaither all my
right title & interest in the said negro man Robert
a slave for life about twenty eight years of age.  To
Have and To Hold the said negro man to himself and
to his heirs executors & administrators & assigns
to and for the full term of ten years to begin from
the first day of December 1844 and continued
until the first day of December in the year
