this Recognizance to be void and of non  effect otherwise to
be and remain in full force and virtue of law

 Know all men by these Presents that I John Thomas
Quill of Howard C.o and State of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of $678.25 lawful
money of the United States in hand paid by
                          John W.m Quill at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt
                          whereof is hereby acknowledged: have granted bargained and sold and
                          by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John Wm Quill
                          his Executors, Administrators and assigns the following property to wit
                          6 head of horses 8 cows 1 Thrashing & sundry farming implements.  To
                          Have and To Hold the said described property to the said John Wm
                          Quill his executors Administrators and assigns forever and the said John
                          Tho.s Quill for his Heirs Executors and Administrators the said John Tho.s
                          Quill unto the said John W.m Quill his executors and Administrators
                          and assigns against the said John F Quill_ Executors and Administrators
                          and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and
                          will warrant and forever defend by these presents.      In Witness Whereof
                                have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of August Eighteen
                          hundred and 60

                          Be it remembered that on this sixth day of August 1860 before the
                          Subscriber a Justice of the Peace for Howard County appears John Thomas
                          Quill and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be his
                          act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof.  And
                          at the same time appeared before me John Wm Quill the grantee in the
                          Said Bill of Sale named and made oath that the consideration set
                          forth in Said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth
