aforegoing deed or bill of sale and do several acknowledge
the same to be their act and deed.  And at the
same time personally appears the said Julianna
Wrim and makes oath before me that the consideration
set forth in said deed or bill of sale is true and
bona fide as therein set forth sworn before

William Hughes
 Know all men by these presents
that I Evan Hughes of Howard
County and State of Maryland
for and in consideration of the
sum of four hundred dollars
lawful money of the United States in hand paid by
William Hughes of the county and state aforesaid
at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents
the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have
granted bargained and sold and by these presents
do grant bargain and sell unto the said William
Hughes his executors administrators and assigns
one negro boy Frank Thomas to serve until the
eleventh day of August Eighteen hundred and seventy
nine the said negro boy being the same that was
bought from Zachariah Brown and McLane Brown
as by reference to bill of sale from the said Zachariah
Brown and McLane Brown to the said Evan
Hughes bearing date the third day of August
Eighteen hundred and fifty four and recorded
in Liber W. H. W.  No 3 folio 40 &c one of the chattel
records of Howard County will more fully appear
To have and to hold the said described negro boy
for the term aforesaid to the said William Hughes
his executors administrators and assigns for
the term aforesaid.   And I the said Evan Hughes
for my self my heirs executors and administrators
the said negro boy Frank Thomas unto the said
William Hughes his executors administrators
and assigns against me the said Evan Hughes
my executors and administrators and against all
and every other person or persons whatsoever shall
and will warrant and forever defend by these presents
    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
