late of Howard County deceased Which said last will and Testament has been duly admitted to probate by the Orphans Court of Howard County as by reference to the record of said Court will more fully appear in consideration of the Sum of Five hundred and eighty dollars paid me by William Devries resident of Baltimore City in said State do hereby bargain and sell as executor aforesaid to the said William Devries negro slave Jim belonging to the estate of the said testatrix for the term of thirteen years said term Commencing in the month of August last past and to terminate and be complete in the ninth of August in the year Eighteen hundred and seventy two the said Joshua H Shipley as executor aforesaid being entitled to said slave for the whole of said term In Witness Whereof we have hereunto set our hands and affixed our seals this twenty ninth day of February in the year eighteen hundred and sixty Witness my hand and seal Joseph T Logan Joshua H Shipley (seal) E A Weller Wm Devries (seal) State of Maryland Baltimore City Sct I hereby certify that on this 29th day of February A D 1860 personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for said City Joshua H Shipley and William Devries and severally acknowledged the foregoing bill of sale to be their act And at the same time the said William Devries the vendee in said bill of sale being first by me duly sworn upon the Holy Evangely of Almighty God deposes and says that the consideration mentioned in said bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Joseph T Logan State of Maryland Baltimore City Sct I hereby certify that Joseph T Logan Esquire before whom the annexed acknowledgment & affidavit were made and who has thereto subscribed his name was at the time of so doing a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore duly commissioned and sworn In Testimony Whereof I hereto set my hand and (Seals) affix the seal of the superior court of Baltimore (place) city this ninth day of March A D 1860 Geo C Sangston Clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore City |
